Gemini’s The Golden Girl Sophia

FDC CGCA TKN

Sophie came along at the right time to teach me something new. At 21 ounces upon arrival, she brought with her 300 pounds of personality. The girl was - and is - fierce! Sophie became first conformation dog. I had to learn how to groom as well as the nuances of showing. Showing a Pomeranian is far different from a Dane, for many reason! But learning the ropes with AKC and UKC, how points are earned, how the classes work and the progression toward a championship is all the same. While we only showed for a year and I was never able to put a point on her, I learned a ton through this process and we were able to bond and grow as a team.

One other lesson I’ve learned through Sophie is how to better recognize a good breeder, and a preservation breeder. Sophie was my third Pomeranian from the same breeder. While I wouldn’t change a thing that would have not brought each of them into my life, I clearly was a little slow on the uptake. After experiencing a plethora of health issues amongst the three, and witnessing not only serious health concerns and temperament problems in other dogs from the same breeder, it truly opened my eyes and my heart toward how important the mission is of a breeder. I’d like to believe it has inspired my clear vision of what is acceptable and what is not.

Sophie is still my fearless sidekick at nearly 10 1/2 years of age. She is an important piece of the Trifecta puzzle as she has had a tremendous impact on GaGa and her ability to learn to respect small animals. I’m hopeful we have many years left and that she will make her mark on my first generation.
